Delivery Day!
Opening Weekend and the Columbus Behind Glass
The SS Christopher Columbus has made its return trip to Bayfield after nearly one hundred years. Work wrapped up with two days to spare. She was then carefully packed into its own custom shipping container. Then after a nerve-wracking, five-hour drive to the museum, the ship made it there completely undamaged.
The Bayfield Maritime Museum will be this model's permanent home as she delights tens of thousands of visitors for years to come. Special thanks to the museum for welcoming the ship (and her builder) to the beautiful little boating town.
After a small reception by the museum board and its volunteers, there was short informal presentation about the construction of the model and the history of this unique ship. It’s with a HUGE sigh of relief and a great sense of accomplishment that 9 months of work were handed off to the museum. What a journey! Now on to the next project…
